The Johnston County Department of Solid Waste Services will be hosting a one-day Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on Saturday, April 29th, 2017 at the Johnston County Livestock Arena (located next to the landfill), 520 County Home Rd., Smithfield, NC 27577. They will be receiving vehicles from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
Co-sponsors for the collection day are the Johnston County Cooperative Extension Service, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Service’s Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program. The purpose of this event is to provide an opportunity, at no charge, for the residents of Johnston County to safely dispose, or recycle, hazardous chemical products used in the home.To complement this activity, the Sheriff’s Department will be taking unwanted or expired home medications and pharmaceutical products from the public as well.
The farming community is also invited to take advantage of the NCDA’s pesticide disposal program which has been assisting the State’s agricultural industry for many years on the all-important issue of surplus pesticide management. It should be noted that special arrangements must be made prior to the collection day for bulk container disposal.
