The Archer Lodge Town Council invites your comments in favor of, or in opposition to, participating in the 2013 Urban Archery Season. Hunting within the town limits is currently permissible and participation in the Urban Archery Season would add approximately four weeks to hunting season after the regular season has ended. There were a total of 26 cities and towns across North Carolina that participated in the Urban Archery Season in 2012 which started January 14th and ended on February 18th.
Whitetail deer of either sex may be harvested during the Urban Archery Season. State hunting requirements such as season bag limits, as well as possession limits, that apply to the regular deer season would also apply to the Urban Archery Season. Harvested deer would need to be registered with the N.C. Wildlife Commission either via telephone 800-I GOT ONE or online at www.ncwildlife.org
The Urban Archery Season does not obligate private landowners to allow hunting on their property. Under Johnston County ordinances, which the town has adopted, individuals who hunt or fish on the land of another must have written permission on one’s person that has been signed and dated for the current hunting or fishing season, by the landowner or lessee.
The Archer Lodge Town Council will be discussing participation in next year’s Urban Archery Season during the March Work Session on Monday March 5th at the Archer Lodge Community Center. If you have a position on this matter, either for or against, we would like to hear from you. If you are unable to attend the March work session meeting, you are welcome to send us an e-mail or a letter to the following:
